PENN PACKAGING

The packaging should be visually appealing and reflective of the sport's energetic and fun nature. It should also be sturdy and durable to protect the balls during transportation and storage. It is essential to incorporate branding elements, such as the logo and colors, to create a recognizable and cohesive look.

DESIGN STRATEGY

Unlike most racquet sports, ball pressure is not an issue in Pickleball. As ball packs needn't be pressurized, there is an opportunity to introduce a more sustainable alternative. The challenge was to come up with a low-cost recyclable packaging that would be able to compete against similar non-recyclable products.

Taking into account that the average PB's consumer might not appreciate the cardboard approach, the overall shape needed to achieve a trophy-like appearance, elevating the perceived value of the product.
A color coding system was later developed to differentiate the available options. A strong sportive red for the Penn vs a more stylish blue alternative for the ProPenn.
